Marjo-Riitta Reinikainen has a Masters degree in social policy and social work from the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. She is a disabled researcher writing her doctoral thesis in the Unit of Women’s Studies in the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy at the University of Jyväskylä. Since her graduate studies, Women’s Studies and Gay and Lesbian Studies have been sources of a personal, political and academic emancipation and inspiration. Her doctoral thesis deals with the cultural and discursive constructions of disability, with aims to identify the gendered and oppressive forms of dominant disability discourse and to create a space for counter discourse on disability.
