This textbook provides beginning undergraduate students with a basic introduction to postcolonial literatures from different parts of the English-speaking world. By weaving excerpts from a carefully chosen selection of literary texts into narratives of historical events, the book’s contributors have created learning material designed to encourage reflection and stimulate discussion. To this end, the chapters include thought-provoking ‘in-text’ questions that follow the different text extracts. Like its companion volume, Texts and Events: Cultural Narratives of Britain and the United States, the book attempts to open up cultural narratives, encouraging readers to expand their knowledge of literature and history, not only by analysing the texts included in the chapters, but also by searching for other texts, both fictional and historical. Each chapter ends with ‘Suggestions for Further Study’ and ‘Suggestions for Further Reading’, providing students with the opportunity to further develop their knowledge of cultural narratives produced in English from around the world.
